oh snap. This was similar to what i was thinking when i posted the link to the collapsible cardboard. This is a very solid idea.
You can easily expand on this and probably make it more aesthetically pleasing. also it would be a very cheap helmet. I'm thinking probably would go great as a companion for those pay as you go bikes?
Maybe even disposable bike helmet would be a good idea to go with, apart from the negative environmental impact. That addresses a real need for design, with the rise in popularity of those bikes, but no rise in safety included. just a thought!
Add the E-scooter rental community to that list...would be a great hand out for the Outdoor Expos as a advertisement for a final design.
i'm super on board with the idea of an inexpensive helmet that could be sold in a vending machine. Maybe it has a limited lifespan...or an option for limited life spans.
This is very similar to the expanded, 3D printed version of the base hexacomb lattice in the Hexo Helmet designs. The price savings would be a significant, despite the short life of the materials. Could this be made as a carbon fiber wafer, and then made into an "origami"? I'll do some sketches to explain my idea. There could be varied levels of re-use.
